The chairman, Ajeromi Local Government, Hon. Fatai Ayoola, today presented the 2018 Budget Appropriation Bill of N3, 053,486,342.83, to the council’s lawmakers with works and education taking the largest chunk of the budget.
This year’s budget was an increment to the 2017 budget of over N2billion.The council boss also presented three vehicles and motorbikes to three divisions of the Nigerian police within the council.
A breakdown of the budget shows that while works got 81% of the budget with N911, 269,830.03 allocated to it, education got N73, 000,000. Other areas to receive attention are health sector which got 5.87% at N66million; Women Empowerment got 0.80% at N9million while environment and agriculture got 018% at N2million each
While speaking after the presentation, the chairman promised to implement the budget and urged the lawmakers to speedily look into it for approval.
“Today we presented vehicles to the Nigerian police force. This emanated from our previous discussions with Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgar who told me to ask what the need of the police in the divisions are and not what I intend doing for them.
We had stakeholders meeting where policemen in the divisions were invited and they told us what their problems are which informed the decisions to buy these vehicles and the motorbikes,’ he said.
He added: “The vehicles are for surveillance of areas where bikes will serve as means of quick response because of the trucks that are passing through our community. With the bikes, they can easily maneuver and get to any troubled spot in a jiffy
On the area of the budget, the chairman said: “The crux of our budget of 2018 is based on education. Education has the highest vote this time around. This is informed by the presence of over 78schools in our community. We have the highest numbers of schools in the federation and most of these schools are in sorry states. Most of the students are seats on the floor to take classes. I have gone round and see that this is what our people needs for now to upgrade and give them a conducive environment for learning.
Mind you, education as a body cannot build school, s it has to come under works and housing department in providing that structure. We intend to build heath facility in each of the wards. We are using Ward A at Alayabiagaba as starting point where a new Public Health Centre will be built We are also using Akere PHC as 24hrs flagship.”
He debunked the impression that Ajegunle is known for notoriety, adding that this year’s budget will address youths’ restiveness
“We have trained entrepreneurs doing one thing or another. Successful ones among them have linked up with banks to give them loans. We also gave out N1million each to five participants so that they can be doing business. We gave out goods worth N50,000 to some youths The aim is for them to sell the goods, and come back to take another goods worth N100,000, and after selling them comes back again to take N200,000 goods. We discovered that the moment you give them money, they spend it but that method has helped to empower them
Ajegunle is known for sport so we intend to up our games in sporting activities. If government can fulfill its promise to build the Maracana stadium, we intend to build on that and make sure the area is packed with sporting activities.
We are also known for music which we want to make use of to empower youths. We are not known for hooliganism,” he said.
The Chairman also inaugurated the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), Ajeromi chapter.
